Doulas are Essential
1. We provide continuous labor
support to the mother. We support the birthing person throughout labor and birth.
2. We advocate for you! Amplifying the mother’s voice if she is being dismissed, ignored, or not heard.
3. We have a positive impact on birthing women of color. We help you understanding your options so you have agency over your birth.
4. We provide techniques in labor, such as breathing, relaxation techniques, movements, and positioning.
5. We support the birthing person and partner by working through fears and self-doubts. We listen to the mother with empathy.
6. We care for the mothers emotional health. We are reassuring, encouraging and accepting to whatever the birthing person wants.
As a Black Doula, it’s a joy to show up for my clients by being apart of dismantling systemic racism, obstetric violence and big-business agendas that limit options for Black birthing people and their partners.
